Boredom Unleashes My Inner Computer Geek

So, my computer pretty much fails. But, I have something to do about that. I believe it would be a worthwhile investment to take about 90 dollars out of my Macbook fund to buy an external drive of about 500GB. Why? This will be useful now as well as later. Use now: move all of my stuff (which takes up most of the family computer) off of the hard drive onto the external drive. That will free up about 30GB of space. Yes, I know I will have a lot of space left after that. I'll figure out what to do with that when the time comes. Probably installing all future software and files to that. When I get the Macbook (which is now cheaper because I don't have to add more storage internally) I can partition the external drive with Kubuntu Linux and Windows XP. I can run all three of those without a reboot with VM Ware Fusion.
My plans after the drive and before the Mac: tweak the desktop more to make it look more like a Mac (if I can't have the real thing, I can always imitate), install more geeky fun stuff, download more music and videos to my iPod, make the interwebs run from the computers RAM (albeit a small amount) making the computer faster in general. woot.

Musical Gems... and a little poll

I've been listening to a lot of music lately, some stuff that people know such as Eminem, as well as some uber indie stuff of many different genres. These are some artists that you might have heard of, but not necessarily, and deserve to get out there.
Give these a listen if you can:
Socratic: piano fused indie rock at its best
Blowzabella: Classical English and French instrumental dancing music. It's like drinking music, without the alcohol.
I'm From Barcelona: Swedish pop rock (vocals are English). The band has 25 members.
Silence Before Sunrise: Local John's Creek progressive band.
Rise Of Pompeii: Local Norcross rock band.
Houston Calls: Electronic infused punk from Jersey.
John Reuben: Sweet rap rock signed to Gotee.
Thriving Ivory: Piano rock. Really amazing, unique vocals.
Making April: Really good piano infused pop rock with amazing lyrics.
For Great Justice: House and breakbeat.
Great Big Sea: Celtic-y goodness.
Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra: Balalaika. Nuff said.
Millencolin: Swedish skate punk (English vocals)
Dave Melillo: Acoustic pop-rock from Drive Thru records.
The Hold Steady:
I don't really know how to describe them except soft alternative rock with great vocals.
Forgive Durden: can't describe, but awesome.
Backseat Goodbye: Acoustic awesomeness from Chad Sugg.
The Snake The Cross The Crown: Indie + Southern rock.

those are some of my recent favourites. What are yours? Post in comments. Also, on a side note, also post in the comments what kind of posts you would like to see more of.

Happy new year... and my favourite websites, gadgets and whatnot.

yay. new year. but I'm sitting at home with my mouth in extreme pain. let's hear it for wisdom teeth extraction. woot.

Since I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday, I've had ample amounts of time to do absolutely everything, which gets kind of boring after a while.

Here are some things I've been doing/gadgets I've been drooling over/websites I've been frequenting (hopefully you can kill as much or more time than I have):
threadless.com . Coolest t-shirts ever. If anyone wants to buy me one you can have a digital cookie.
nystic.com . Great website with some awesome people who are willing to help you with hardware, software and the like or just to chat about life and music.
Macbook. If you just go look at apple.com you will soon see why they are so freaking amazing. What makes it even better is that it can run Windows better than computers made to run Windows can run Windows. I mean just look at this video of Smackbook. It's like the sweetest thing ever.
stuffwhitepeoplelike.com . It's good for a whole lot of laughs, if you are a white person reading it, you can laugh at all the lame things you do that are stereotypically white people things, and if you are not white, I encourage you to have a non-racist laugh about the weird ways of the white.
